Samples from the "Found Object Masterpiece"
Project description below
After doing a little research and sharing about several assemblage artists (J.Cornell, M.Hanforth, J.Outteridge, Bettye Saar, H.Bhaba, R.Rauschenberg, and G.Herms) we came up with "The Found Object Masterpiece" Students had to develop a concept, scavenge materials, and justify their design choices. They also had to choose site specific locations where their sculpture would be most appropriate. For example, the chair was installed in a quiet corner on campus for relaxation and contemplation, the barbie beauty sculpture resided in the Personal Counselling office. One student even built a small house out of scrap wood from the Theater Department, where, once completed, she painted it with chalkboard paint and invited students to experience it as a quiet refuge where they could write and draw their thoughts and feelings with coloured chalk.
